General Counsel

Matt serves as General Counsel of Peak Carbon. Matt also currently leads the alternative investment and investment management practice group of Maynard Cooper & Gale, P.C., representing real estate funds, private equity funds, Timber Investment Management Organizations and other Clients in their fund formation, investment and other transactional activities. He has served as lead counsel on over 50 private fund formations, including both domestic and international funds and multi-jurisdictional master-feeder structures, as well as closed-end and open-end investment vehicles. He has also served as lead counsel on over $5 billion in real estate related transactions, including new developments, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, secondary sales and financings. 

Matt graduated from the University of Virginia and Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Tax Lawyer. Matt has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America (2007-present), Top 40 Under 40, Birmingham Business Journal (2004) and Top Attorneys in Birmingham, Birmingham Magazine (2013).
