Tom Breheny
Coal Mine and Energy Projects
Tom has been at the forefront of carbon reductions in the coal mining sector since the 1990s. As Group Electrical Engineer for Coal Mining, then later as Managing Director of UK Coal’s power generation team, he was pivotal in developing CMM Carbon methodologies and implementation of CMM power and flare reduction projects under the UK Emission Trading Scheme in 2002, as well as internationally later under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), securing UK Coal and his firm £21 million in carbon reduction credits.
Now under the renewed UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) Tom has supported delivery of wider climate mitigation projects in the energy sector, managing utility connections, contracts for the purchase and sales of gas and electricity and sourcing of biomass, as well as planning and environmental permitting for industrial power applications.
Tom is Director of CleanCap Engineering Services Ltd, representing Peak Carbon in our joint venture with CleanCap Technologies LLC.
